mama yangu: developing a sense of belonging

Course begins May 26, 6pm Pacific Time

In this program you will learn:

 Addison’s unique Body Chants and Five Signature Steps for each Chant 

• Explore Shaking Medicine and guided improvisations based on vocalizing while moving

• Vocalizations & choreography for teaching your own KiVo classes or incorporating into your programs

To build community around dance, vocalizing, healing and transformation

• Develop a sense of unity, social cohesion, belonging and a welcoming atmosphere with your group 

• African Dance styling and Rhythmic Vocal Hocketing

Time Commitment: 2 hours per week for 7 weeks, plus homework and practice

Curriculum:

Week 1

First Hour - KiVo/African class

Second Hour-Introduction, Being Sung to Earth-The Gift of the Body: Web tools, overview of the Mama Yangu Course & KiVo Class format. Creating the circle, participant agreements, administration, website overview, password protected pages, and introductions.

Discussion of Kundalini, the sacred spiral, the tailbone and spine, unlocking the serpent. Expressing the sacred spiral in movement.

Introduce and practice KundaChant. Feel the vibration of chant and send to chest. Practice KundaChant rhythm and Five Signature Steps. Assign homework.


Week 2

First Hour - KiVo/African class

Second Hour-Belly, producing an alkaline environment, reducing queasiness, removing obstructions in the gut, releasing fear, suppression, disharmony, connecting to All Our Relations.

Introduce and practice NeChant. Feel the vibration of chant and send to belly. Practice KundaChant rhythm and Five Signature Steps. Assign homework.


Week 3

First Hour - KiVo/African class

Second Hour-Chest; landscape where we hold others near, the blood of the Ancestors, the Mother’s milk, family which anchors us to earth.

Introduce and practice MaChant. Feel the vibration of chant and send to chest. Practice MaChant rhythm and Five Signature Steps. Assign homework.


First Hour - KiVo/African class

Second Hour-Fingers & Toes; Pumping mechanisms, instruments of relationship, creating energetic tendrils, reaching out and planting down.

Introduce and practice EehOhChant. Feel the vibration of chant and work the fingers & toes. Practice Chant rhythm and Five Signature Steps. Assign homework.

Week 4


First Hour - KiVo/African class

Second Hour-Temples: Egyptian mythology and your temples, crossing meridians with movement, expanding peripheral vision - counteracting myopia, creating group rhythms and getting in sync.

Introduce and practice KeeChant. Feel the vibration of chant and activate temples and peripheral vision. Practice Chant rhythm and Five Signature Steps. Assign homework.

Week 5


First Hour - KiVo/African class

Second Hour-In-depth discussion and practice of Shaking Medicine. Overview of chant for breathing passages.

Week 6


First Hour - KiVo/African class

Second Hour-Skin: Our largest sensory organ, Suggestions: within and outside the skin; wet, dry, rough, soft, heat, cool, etc. I cannot tell you how to live in your skin!

Introduce and practice CoourChant. Feel the vibration of chant and activate skin through Improvisation.

Classes are for personal edification and/or for teaching. If you would like to become a KiVo Facilitator after completion of this course, you may become a Facilitator in Training (FIT) and continue with the Mentoring Program.
